The seven-piece Celtic/Punk band Flogging Molly returns to the McDonald Theatre on Wednesday, June 1. The band is on tour to promote their upcoming studio album “Speed of Darkness.” This fifth studio album to the band’s name focuses on the Recession with lyrics written from the perspective of the American working man. It is a critique on the American economy and the policies that led to the collapse of the economy.
Originally an in-house band at the Los Angeles bar Molly Malone’s, Flogging Molly played at the pub every week for a number of years before they were picked up by a label. After getting their start from playing at Molly Malone’s playing Monday after Monday with a small, yet loyal following, the name Flogging Molly seemed only appropriate.
They are playing in Eugene the day after the release of “Speed of Darkness.” There will be an in-store signing at CD World at 6:00 p.m. the day of the show. The album is currently streaming for free online at RollingStone.com.
