On Wednesday city officials including Mayor Kitty Piercy and representatives from Ethos and Ninkasi Brewing unveiled the winning art piece of the Spirit of Summer Art Competition. The 7 x 17 foot banner, featuring art by Lane Community College student Matt Wiggins, hangs on the parkade at the corner of 8th and Willamette.
The contest and banner were designed to promote the City of Eugene’s Summer in the City events. The series is intended to enhance the livelihood of downtown by bringing free family-friendly events and activities to the area every Wednesday night throughout the month of August. Beginning at 6 p.m. events include live music, dancing, film nights, and more.
The artwork will be on display throughout the summer. Ethos and its partners Ninkasi Brewing and the City of Eugene will coordinate a similar art contest for a winter banner in Eugene.
