Need a tasty treat to cool off in these hot summer months? After much prolonged, painful deliberation, we’ve selected the best places to chill in the Eugene/Springfield area.
5) Baskin-Robbins (1131 Mohawk Boulevard,Springfield): Baskin-Robbins offers various flavors of scooped ice cream. They offer classic flavors such as chocolate and vanilla, seasonal flavors such as Quarterback crunch and tax crunch, and light ice cream such as Wild ‘n Reckless sherbet and Raspberry Cheesecake. This is by far the yummiest ice cream parlor I found inSpringfield. The location has lots of parking which is perfect for whipping in for a quick ice cream cone. There is also inside seating available. Reasonably priced, delicious flavors and a friendly staff definitely enhance the whole ice cream experience. Next time you are in Springfield, give this Baskin-Robbins a taste.
4) Campus Sub Shop (1225 Alder St,Eugene): The Sub Shop has self-serve frozen yogurt, with candy, cookies, fruit and more that can be piled on top. It is priced by the ounce so a person can buy as much, or as little as they wish. This is great for people who are trying to lower their desert intake but still are craving something sweet. There are always low fat or fat free options that are just as tasty as their regular counterparts. The Campus Sub Shop is local and seriously underrated. If you love frozen yogurt, this is your place.
3) Cold Stone (112 Oakway Ctr, Eugene): Cookies and candies and singing, oh my! Cold Stone is known not only for their wealth of delicious ice cream, but also for a singing staff whenever a tip is put into the tip jar. The staff is patient as costumers contemplate what sugary treat to mix in with their base ice cream and always have great suggestions for first timers. It is also fun to watch as they chop and mash up your ice cream to mix the rest of the ingredients into it. They will deliver the mashed up dessert neatly into a bowl or cone so that the costumers can enjoy either indoor or courtyard seating.
2) Prince Pückler’s (1605 East 19th Ave.Eugene): Close to campus and with a large range of flavors Prince Pückler’s is a local favorite. The flavors range from basic flavors like coffee to random concoctions called “Galaxy”, which has malt and white chocolate mixed into chocolate ice cream. Customers can choose to sit inside the parlor next to a picture taken during President Obama’s visit to the parlor, or they can sit outside and enjoy the warm summer breeze. This is a very family friendly location as well as a great place to grab some ice cream and stroll through the surrounding neighborhoods. The price is reasonable and the ice creams richness is well worth the visit.
1) The Red Wagon Creamery (Various locations): The Red Wagon’s chocolate ice cream tastes purely of chocolate. Even before taking the first bite I could smell the rich chocolaty smell I was about to consume. You can also feel good about buying from The Red Wagon Creamery because they believe in buying as much local ingredients as possible. The Red Wagon believes that during these tough economic times, local companies supporting one another is the only way for small businesses to survive against big chains. What makes the flavor so pure and delicious you may ask? It is the fact that The Red Wagon makes all of their ice cream from scratch. The service is extremely friendly and the staff will answer any questions you might have about the ice cream or about the ingredients they use. The Red Wagon is portable and visits different locations.
